ELGIN SCHEME APPROVED - WECH TO RECEIVE £3 MILLION FROM WESTMINSTER

On 5 March 2013 WECH received planning approval from Westminster City Council for our proposals to improve the Elgin Estate, subject to finalising the terms of a legal agreement.  In addition the Housing Department has agreed to contribute £3 million, from the Affordable Housing Fund, that will go towards the cost of building the 36 homes for rent that will be produced as part of the scheme. The next stage will be to prepare detailed specifications for the various elements of the project and to tender the contract.  We hope to have let a contract by September this year and to have finished the works during the middle part of 2015.  As the scheme progresses we will hold further residents’ meetings to keep you informed, to seek your views where decisions are required and to introduce the contractor who is awarded the work.

I would like to thank everyone who has been involved in getting our proposals to this stage – WECH residents, the WECH Board, the Elgin Working Party, WECH staff and our consultants and advisors. We will continue to work hard to make sure that the scheme is successfully completed and achieves the improvements and benefits we are looking for.
